An elegant and decorative terra cotta group, finely sculpted, depicting Psyche revived by Cupid's kiss or Love, an ancient artistic theme from Greek mythology.<\/p>\n

A fine 19th-century French work in the style of Claude-Augustin Cayot's Cupid and Psyche in the Wallace Collection.<\/p>\n

In good condition, with some minor patina wear that adds to its charm. Our terracotta rests on a carved and gilded wooden base decorated with a frieze of pearls (some wear to the gilding).<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He studied painting with Jean Jouvenet and sculpture with Etienne le Hongre. He worked for 14 years in Van Cleve's studio.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He was admitted to the Acad\u00e9mie des Beaux-Arts in 1711 thanks to his sculpture La Mort de Didon, still strongly influenced by classical aesthetics.<\/p>\n
